Polychromatic Light Therapy is a unique therapy that harnesses the healing powers of blue and infrared light. Blue LED light has been shown in the literature to benefit conditions of the skin needing an increase in circulation and/or pain reduction. The evidence clearly demonstrates low-level blue light having anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. Specifically, blue LED light works to treat mild-to-moderate inflammatory and acne.  Blue light (400 – 500 nm) works by reaching the pores where the bacteria live and killing the p. acnes bacteria causing underlying acne outbreaks. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends LED light therapy to decrease acne-causing bacteria. Research has also demonstrated the application of polychromatic light can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, stimulate collagen production, increase new tissue growth, and prevent scar formation and enhance normal tissue repair.   

Unlike blue, red or yellow light, near infrared (also known as IR) light is invisible to the human eye. It emits special wavelengths of light energy that dramatically increase circulation to injury sites and areas of chronic pain. The IR light has been reported to dilate blood vessels at the site of treatment. The result tends to be a more rapid relief of discomfort, improvement in sensation, and regeneration of damaged tissues.
